Funeral for a Friend

Last week we lost a member of our Soul Family.

It was out of the blue and came as a complete shock.

On Monday, we held a memorial service. Dozens of people showed up including his family, friends, and community members – some were complete strangers.

They came together to remember and give thanks for the life of our guests and friend. Many of our guests struggle with processing emotions and confronting death, we were honored to provide a safe space to share, cry and grieve together – as a family.

One of his good friends who couldn’t make the service dropped off a drawing they made that we later passed on to his family.

When we found out he had passed we were shattered but jumped into action. Our social worker put together a grief resource sheet for guests and volunteers, our floor team consoled our guests and provided support and the staff prepared a memorial service.

It was beautiful to hear and share stories and memories of our dear friend.

Some journeys in life might not change in the way we would like, or we can understand, but we are privileged to have known our guest. He will always be a part of our family.
