Meet Denis

Soul really IS more than a meal. 

We often say Soul is “more than a meal,” our Guest, Denis describes perfectly what we mean. 

Denis used to travel all the way to Sydney to visit soup kitchens just to find companionship—but everything changed when he discovered Soul in Newcastle. “I came in looking for a meal, but I found much more than that.” 

Denis remembers feeling loneliness before he first came to Soul. “I’ve always been a bit of a loner, but I was at a point where I was really craving company. Soul provided me with a connection to other people. I enjoy talking with other Guests—you never know what someone has been through until you hear their story.” 

For Denis, the meals have been a big help. “They always taste good, and having meals at Soul is a big saving to my budget.”  

Meals are just the start; Denis appreciates the variety of support services Soul connected him with. Services like Centrelink, a podiatrist and a regular hairdresser. “I love that Soul has lots of services available and lots of people who can help. All you have to do is ask.” 

Denis has simple advice: “Come and try Soul. You will get a great meal and help with services. It’s a lot easier than begging on the street. At least try it once.”
