Meet Genevieve – I have learned that guests are resilient

Genevieve has been with SoulHub for 6 months now, we thought we would ask her some questions about her experiences.

WHAT LED YOU TO START VOLUNTEERING AT SOUL HUB?

I wanted to be part of something positive and feel more connected to my community. Since the move I see the new Soul building more now and so it was time to do a trial and I love it!

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE VOLUNTEERING AT SOUL HUB? WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE?

I work with the breakfast team once a week. I enjoy meeting the guests and learning their name and something about them I really enjoy being part of this community and seeing people smile!

WHY DO YOU KEEP COMING BACK TO VOLUNTEER AT SOUL HUB?

It is a very welcoming environment, working with the Soul volunteers and building better relationships with guests.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM OUR GUESTS AT SOUL HUB? WHAT HAS BEEN MOST CHALLENGING OR EXCITING FOR YOU AT SOUL HUB?

I have learned that guests are resilient, very happy (mostly) to have a chat and tell us about themselves.

Challenge – just learning how some guests like to be spoken to (wait until they talk to us for example).

Exciting – Hearing when guests have positive change in their lives

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SOUL STORY – IT MIGHT BE SAD, MIGHT BE FUNNY, MIGHT BE MEANINGFUL

One gentleman used Soul’s services for a few weeks after finding himself in tough times. Through such a short time here, he was back into housing and feeling positive about the future.

FINAL THOUGHTS – IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE OR SAY?

If you are considering volunteering, check Soul out. It is hugely positive for everyone involved and you won’t regret it.
