Meet Jan – I always walk out the door smiling.
Jan has been with SoulHub for a year now, we thought we would ask her some questions about her experiences.
WHAT LED YOU TO START VOLUNTEERING AT SOUL HUB?
I retired and realised how lucky I was in life and wanted to give back to the community. I was aware of the good work Soul does. They advertised on Facebook a Volunteer Information Night and so I decided to attend.
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE VOLUNTEERING AT SOUL HUB? WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
I do Tuesday breakfast from 6.30 am to 9.00 am. I usually do tea, coffee and hot drinks. I love chatting to people and getting to know people as so many are now regulars.
WHY DO YOU KEEP COMING BACK TO VOLUNTEER AT SOUL HUB?
Easy – I love it! The volunteers and staff are friendly and welcoming. It makes you feel good. I always walk out the door smiling.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM OUR GUESTS AT SOULHUB? WHAT HAS BEEN MOST CHALLENGING OR EXCITING FOR YOU AT SOULHUB?
The biggest thing I have learnt is that there are no stereotypes. People who need a little help in life come in all shapes and sizes and ages.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SOUL STORY – IT MIGHT BE SAD, MIGHT BE FUNNY, MIGHT BE MEANINGFUL
It’s just a simple thing. A man came in and said that as soon as he woke up in the morning, he looked forward to coming to Soul for his coffee. After that he said his day was off to a good start.
FINAL THOUGHTS – IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE OR SAY?
I seriously think that volunteering has made me a better person and makes me happy.
