Meet Michael

A chance encounter changed his life.

Michael heard about Soul after a chance encounter with one of our volunteers. He was initially hesitant about stepping inside, his schizophrenia making new situations particularly daunting. After going two days without a meal, our volunteers provided him with a warm meal, dry jeans, a jacket, and even a pair of old Dunlop Volleys.

Soul was able to connect Michael with an NDIS outreach worker that was present at Soul that day. Within four weeks, Michael moved into semi-independent housing. He now has regular access to a doctor and the stability he had longed for.

Reflecting on his journey, he says, “Soul Hub did it all. They kicked it off.” Today, Michael not only has the essentials he lacked but also a newfound sense of security and community.

Michael’s story is a powerful reminder of why we come together for Sleepout For Soul: to raise vital funds that help people experiencing homelessness and hardship find stability, support, and a fresh start through Soul.
