Meet Steve

Talk about jack of all trades… Meet Steve.

Steve worked as a nurse unit manager at John Hunter Hospital for 6 years. He’s a former soldier in the army, deploying as a nurse in Afghanistan with the United Nations. Now Steve works as a teachers aid at Irrawang High School in Raymond Terrace – he’s also been volunteering at Soul Hub for the last four years.

He was volunteering at the Samaritans Christmas Day function where he first heard about Soul.

I came because it is a good thing to give back to the community and I enjoy the other volunteers company.

What have you learned from our guests at Soul?

Humility – life is about choices and we all have made different choices. They’ve also made me more aware of the homelessness issue in Newcastle.
