Volunteer Story – Marg
Meet Marg
Five years ago, Marg stepped into the Soul Hub kitchen for a Thursday shift, hoping to give back to her community. What she found was more than just a volunteer gig—it was a place full of heart, friendship, and purpose.
“I felt incredibly fortunate in my own life,” Marg says. “I wanted to give something back—especially to people doing it tough in Newcastle.”
These days, you’ll find Marg in the office two days a week, helping with volunteer onboarding and admin—making sure every new team member feels welcome and at home. And because she’s always happy to lend a hand, you might also spot her at the front desk or greeting the community at events like Taste of Soul, Sleepout for Soul, and Friday Chill.
For Marg, one of the most rewarding parts of volunteering is seeing what’s possible when people are met with kindness and care.
“I’ve followed some of our Guests’ journeys over the years and seen incredible transformations,” she says. “It’s proof that when you treat people with dignity and kindness, that’s what comes back.”
Marg’s warm smile, steady hand, and quiet wisdom are part of what makes Soul feel like home. She loves the camaraderie and connection that come with being part of the team—and some of her friendships at Soul have stretched across the years.
“It’s a really special place,” she says. “And I reckon volunteering keeps me young! I’ve picked up new computer skills, I stay busy, and I genuinely look forward to being here each week.”
Our Volunteer Coordinator, Ella, says it best:
“Marg is often the first face or voice new volunteers meet—and she instantly makes them feel like part of the Soul family. She’s calm, kind, generous with her time, and beyond reliable. We simply couldn’t do it without her.”
Thanks, Marg! We’re so grateful for everything you bring to Soul.
